Things We Did Before Reality
In 2006, a friend suggested to Will Franken— who was fast becoming a well-established star in the Northern California comedy circuit— that he start a podcast. Franken inwardly retched at the word, and said to his well-meaning friend something to the effect of: "I don't want to sit down with douchebag comedians and ask them what makes something funny." They promptly corrected Franken's misapprehension that a podcast had to be comedians interviewing other comedians about comedy. Which is, to be fair, what most of them were then and are now. "A podcast doesn't have to be that" she said, "It can be anything you want." Upon hearing this, Franken's mind went back to those halcyon analogue days when he had first learnt to double track and interact with his own voice via the help of an eight track recorder and produce cassette tapes of his madness that he would then sell to his classmates. In that case, I won't make podcasts, I'll make albums, Franken thought. The result was the highly acclaimed series contained in this collection. Produced and performed between the years 2006 to 2014 across two continents. Amongst the twenty-six offerings in this box set are the Two Christmas Albums, Texas Chainsaw Yuletide, and Michael Krenford is Not Alone, The Entire Mini Collection of EPs known colloquially as The Strollers Series and of course, Side Two of Abbey Road.
