In terms of aesthetics, Will Franken loves nothing more than a healthy dose of layers and there’s plenty of those in store in this acclaimed double-album follow-up to the original Selvatico. Bookended by the gifting of a tablet, device, call it what you will, to an elderly lady on her birthday from her grandson Penelope, we are taken to the cloyingly saccharine world of wannabe online entrepreneur Skyle Handwrite and his affable sidekick Reverend Sam. In between moments of pimping the abstract and meaningless concept of “Experience Gathering”, Skyle and Sam find themselves waging war against an army of animated statues on Elon Musk Island and achieving liberation from the lie that the internet leads to prosperity. Listen out for W. C. Fields as he introduces the titular character of Selvatico, housed in a cage in a carnival sideshow, considered a freak for his unvaccinated status. Features a filmed performance of the Franken-penned Luddite synthesiser single “Stay Alive For Just a Little Longer, Grandma!”
